Challenges/Gap that the project addressed (what is the problem): Since the roll-out of the Covid-19 vaccines in Nigeria, there have been reports of Cpovid-19 vaccine hesitancy. Various sociocultural influences have contributed to such hesitancy. This is often fueled by misinformation on the adverse effects of vaccines.
Intervention (what did we do?) The project aims to achieve equitable access to quality COVID-19 vaccine services in 3 states (FCT, Kano, Kaduna) through three key objectives by increasing acceptance and uptake of COVID-19 vaccine services through debunking myths and misconception, increasing access to equitable quality COVID-19 vaccine services by strengthening service delivery, and creating an enabling environment for equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines. PPFN works with 85 facilities (government approved vaccine centers) to strengthen and scale-up service delivery at the facility level. The project has built the capacity of healthcare workers on AEFI, communication, vaccine storage, data handling, and recording.
Outcomes/Results (what are the achievements):
- 158 (Kano 45, Kaduna 49, FCT 64) Covid-19 vaccine centers were assessed out of which 85 (Kano 35, Kaduna 25, FCT 25) were selected for the project intervention.
- 85 Health Care Workers from 85 COVID-19 Vaccine sites in Kano, Kaduna, and FCT were trained on value-based communication and attitude transformation to reduce COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among healthcare workers.
- 170 branded vaccine jackets, 275 Job Aids, 4500 posters, and 11,500 handbills were developed, produced, and distributed to all 85 project intervention facilities.
- Personal Protective Equipment was procured and distributed to all 85 project intervention facilities.
- COVID-19 Mass Vaccination outreaches Supported by PPFN across project states have reached over 37,000 people thus far.
- 85 CHEWs were trained on COVID-19 vaccine social mobilization and referral to project intervention facilities.
