Overview
Nigeria has one of the highest maternal mortality ratios (34%) in the
world, with unsafe abortions being a major contributor (20 – 40%).
According to the WHO (2021), around 45% of all abortions are unsafe of
which 97% takes place in developing countries like Nigeria.
PPFN, through the LAD funding, has improved the availability and access
to the full spectrum of quality person cantered abortion care and
contraception as well as the creation of an enabling environment for selfcare.
In 2022, twenty-five (25) health service providers were trained to improve
their competence in providing quality SRHR and abortion services, using
digital health platforms.
The project was implemented through fifteen (15) facilities in four states:
Benue, Bauchi, Jigawa, and Kano and reached a total of 1,714 clients with
comprehensive abortion care services (within the legal framework in
Nigeria).
